My work is fueled by my fascination with the escalating trend in materialism which encourages overconsumption. I am obsessed with pop
culture, social media, fashion, and the seductive promise of happiness
and wealth they offer. This infatuation manifests as a repulsion/attraction dichotomy within my practice.
Through my scrutiny of excessive consumption; wealth inequality, racial, and sexist stereotyping are no longer just glossed over, but are confronted and held up like a mirror reflecting societal insatiable consumer practices and my own discontent.
Through my excessive collecting of internet images and thrifted store finds I transform and reassemble these coveted objects and images, imbuing my organic abstract forms with kitschy feminine signifiers. These once functional and familiar material goods are reclaimed to form new objects of value and meaning. Through this gathering process and reconstruction I satisfy my material desire, while creating a sense of empowerment and identity in this hyper-connected over consuming world.
